From February 17th to March 5th, 2019, five hip hop artists will travel to Jerusalem as part of the Next Level program. Beat Maker Anthony “Buckwild” Best, Dancer Rizqi Rachmat, DJ Jessie “DJ Nebraska” Davis, and MC Kevin Joshua “Rowdy” Rowsey II will join team manager Junious Brickhouse to perform for audiences and collaborate with local artists to promote cross-culture exchange and conflict resolution. The team is part of a larger Next Level cohort of twenty American MC’s, DJ’s, beat makers, and hip hop dancers leading exchange programs across the globe. You can read more about the artists here. Anthony “Buckwild” Best is a beatmaker that has been working in the background of New York hip hop since the early 1990s. Buckwild boasts an impressive list of projects, collaborations, and remixes, many of which have become quite successful. His breadth of experience and dedication to his craft is what Anthony will be bringing to Next Level.
Rizqi Rachmat is an Indonesian-American hip hop dance educator, choreographer, and researcher. He is a founding member and artistic director of Urban Artistry, an international urban arts culture and education project based in Washington, DC. Rizqi has extensive experience in directing dance and Hip Hop theater productions and gaining competitive hip-hop and world Wushu championship titles. His movement expertise involves hip hop freestyle/choreography and a fusion of traditional Chinese martial arts. His work and artistic portfolio explore the cultivation of urban dance culture and the intersections of data arts, civil society, and conflict resolution. He is mentored by Next Level co-director Junious “House” Brickhouse.
Jessie “DJ Nebraska” Davis is a practicing DJ in New York City. She performs a variety of genres for a number of different venue spaces, and her prowess has taken her around the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America.
Joshua “Rowdy” Rowsey is an underground North Carolina recording artist, actor/improviser, and writer who has been featured on NPR, DJ Booth, and Indy Week. Joshua is a founding member of the national hip hop collective “No9to5 Music”. He initiated the UNC-Chapel Hill cypher, which was nominated for an Indy Week award for best place to listen to Hip Hop in the Triangle. Rowsey has shared the stage with a number of internationally acclaimed recording artists, and has made it his mission to cultivate a thriving hip hop culture in North Carolina.
