Born in New Orleans and currently at Harvard University completing the Nasir Jones Hip Hop Fellowship, Dee-1 has released nine hip hop albums, multiple of which have charted on Billboard. In 2020, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards appointed him to the Louisiana Council for the Success of Black Men and Boys. Dee-1 helps shape policy that merges education and Hip Hop. He has also headlined a Hip Hop financial literacy tour from 2016-2020 in partnership with Sallie Mae and has worked with PUMA, BET, XQ, and more on campaigns involving Hip Hop and education. In 2023, he is launching the organization “Catch and Release” with Hip Hop legend Lupe Fiasco - centered around Hip Hop performance as a field activity on the campuses of MIT and Harvard. He is also releasing three albums, a documentary on Hip Hop as a teaching tool, and an anti-bullying Hip Hop children’s book.
